What is the Power in Recognizing Your Passion?
“People who are successful in all areas of life – in their faith, family, business, sports – share a common trait: the ability to look into the future ad visualize exactly what they want to accomplish.” – Patrick Snow, “Creating Your Own Destiny”
In my last post I talked about how your passion can affect your personal growth and promised that I would share a story about someone who recognized her passion, put it to work and realized her dreams.
This is Barbara’s story:
When I was on an internship working with the chemically dependent people, I met Barbara Day-Max, the founder and owner of Agape Unlimited. Barbara and her late husband, Lee Miller founded the agency on little more than faith and a shoestring. Barbara’s passion to help people who are addicted is the mainspring driving an agency that has helped thousands of people to change their lives as they overcome the challenges of addiction.
Love makes a difference.
The dominant thinking when she began this work in the late 1980’s was that you needed to confront alcoholics harshly in order for them to stop drinking. Many others in the helping professions at that time resisted her style and actually worked against her. However, she was able to attract loyal employees who supported her mission. One such employee, Janice, has poured her passion into working to keep the agency financially solvent. While Barbara and Janice have nearly opposite styles and personalities, they have managed to work for a common purpose because of their shared passion for helping people.
Barbara and her staff were able to realize their dreams because they believe that people can and do change. They recognize that hard work and a willingness to stick your neck out in spite of resistance produces results. The ability to value differences is another quality they needed in order to succeed.
Your passion comes from within you…
It can be developed and nurtured.
Your passion is what drives you – the thing that makes you want to leap out of bed and take on the day.
I’d like to share these quotes with you, because they perfectly describe passion and its power:
“The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why”. – Mark Twain
“The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul on fire.” – Ferdinand Foch
“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” George Eliot
“One of the things that may get in the way of people…is that they’re not in touch with their passion.” – Jack Canfield
“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you” – Oprah Winfrey
What is your passion? Are you in touch with it? Do you feel the energy? Can you imagine the personal change when you embrace it?
